His sales account manager resume got him great job in 45 days - Enhancv

His sales account manager resume got him great job in 45 days - EnhancvHis sales account manager resume got him great job in 45 days - Enhanced Lives is a series which aims to put our customers in the spotlight. In a short interview, we ask about their background, the experience they had with and how it helped to improve their career. Our sixth star is Joshua, a passionate entrepreneur and risk taker who found his dream position as a sales account manager in an innovative Startup. How did help him with that? Read on to find outHi Joshua, can you tell us a bit about yourself?Im a fairly young professional but have had an exciting journey up to this point. Ive been extremely fortunate to successfully challenge the value of education vs. true application. i.e. Graduating HS at 16 in Virginia, went straight to college in Minnesota but decided to go apply my knowledge as an Intelligence Analyst in the U.S. Air Force. After serving I took my passion for technology and web development to a startup in the Pacific Northwest where I was a top-performing Solutions (Sales) Engineer at 21. It was there I was able to found and begin development of my startup Wistly - an SMS, AI-based personal assistant to build healthy habits. Were in the process of applying to incubator programs and seeking Seed funding. After a pretty adventurous start to life, my wife and I decided we wanted to plant our roots closer to the family deciding to build a house out here near Jacksonville, Florida with high hopes we could find career continuation to support it.In Florida, I secured my new position within 45 days thanks to my awesome resume with . Im now an Account Manager at an innovative startup called OpenNest which works on really large initiatives and projects to build strategic growth with a 10x mindset. Were working with brands like Summit Powder Mountain. What was the reason you created your resume?I needed it for new job applications. My old one was in Word and slightly design-focused. I wanted to revamp and spruce it up.What do you like about ? Did you learn anything from it?s UI is ridiculously easy and flexible. Its the only tool online that gives a millennial-worthy resume without the cheap, non-applicable templates. The balance between style, content, and function is just stunning. Ive been on many hiring committees and an resume will always catch my eye. Its clean and minimal.I learned that changing the visuals (i.e. the skills section on my resume) creates a really clean effect that nicely breaks up the text flow. I also enjoyed the Projects section. Its a really nice way for a startup entrepreneur, like myself, to disclose my ownership interest in a professional, non-confrontational way. What message would you send to other job seekers out there?I think my advice would be best geared towards young professionals. As education curriculum gets pushed further further down the ranks, a graduates degree becomes increasingly more popular, and decreasingly valua ble. Due to this, many employers (especially those in the startup world) are becoming hyper-focused on the application, the ability to grind, and culture fit.10 years ago having education on your resume was how you opened the door. Today, its merely an afterthought. Many of the committees Ive sat on never considered it at all (theres clearly an exception to everything- hard to be a scientist without a degree).Related articlesFollow-up emails that will get you hiredWhat I learned from creating Donald Trumps resumeQuestions to ask your future manager before joining the teamLong story short, find different ways to stand out and truly be an expert in your field. will get you the call, its your job to blow them away with your story.I would like to thank Joshua for sharing his experience with us. It means a lot and we hope it will motivate many others to get started and upgrade to more human-centric and performance-based resumes. If youd like to contribute to Enhanced Lives series and sha re your achievements with others, send me a message. What I learned from Sheryl Sandbergs class on resilience

What I learned from Sherbeiyl Sandbergs class on resilienceWhat I learned from Sheryl Sandbergs class on resilienceWhy are some people able to bounce back from adversity, while others never recover? This is a question that Facebook Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and management professor Adam Grant explore in their book on resilience, Option B. If youre among the many employees experiencing professional or personal hardship, fear not. Their research concluded that yur mental toughness is not pre-determined by fate, its a skill each of us can learn and master. If you do not have time to read through a 240-page tome on resilience, theres now also a free online LinkedIn course on the same subject taught by Sandberg and Grant. Its a skill set that we work on throughout our lives,Grant said. Its something we can build long before we face any kind of tragedy or difficulty.Heres what it taught me that we can apply to our careers1. Fight the voice telling you the bad feeling is permane ntI am prone to all-or-nothing thinking under times of extreme stress. During one job hunt, I had the persistent, nagging thought that I was never going to find a good job and I was always going to be stuck unemployed. Part of building resilience is learning to undo these patterns of thinking. In Option B, Grant and Sandberg say that you have to tell yourself that the hardship is not personal, pervasive or permanent in reservierung to move forward. The course uses Sandbergs personal story of loss as a guiding lesson on how to strengthen our resilience muscles. In 2015, Sandbergs husband SurveyMonkey CEO Dave Goldberg died suddenly fromcardiac arrhythmia. Suddenly becoming a widow with two young children was a devastating experience Sandberg could not landsee past. She told her co-author Grant that, I will never feel joy again. Part of Grants advice to Sandberg was slowly learning to change those nevers to sometimes and lately. What the data shows is that people overestimatehow bad its going to be and how long the misery will last, Grant said. For Sandberg, that thinking worked. No matter what youve been through, there will be another moment you will laugh. And knowing that help builds your strength to get there, she said.2. Pay attention to small joysWhen youre going through a hard time at work or at home, the feeling can become an all-consuming anxiety. We humans tend to see the bad before we can see the good. To recalibrate our anxious brains into becoming resilient ones, we have to make a conscious effort to start noticing the big and small joys around us. For Sandberg, this meant documenting three moments of personal joy before going to bed, so that she ends each night with what went well instead of being hounded by what went wrong. Its a practice she started after her husband died. What I realized is that even before Dave had died,I went to bed every night worrying about what I did wrong. Now Ive told lots of people to do this, and lots of my friends have writte n downthree things they do well, and it is transformative, Sandberg says.Practicing gratitude is backed by science as a way to build our emotional muscles. A 2017 study on psychological resilience among military veterans found that higher levels of gratitude and sense of purpose were linked to mental fortitude.3. Break the challenge down into manageable partsWhen you feel overwhelmed, any task can seem insurmountable. Getting a job can seem impossible. Finishing a big project can seem too hard. Resilient people, however, are able to break down the overwhelming challenge into manageable parts. This is a lesson that Sandbergs mother taught her when Sandberg was a 16-year-old learning to ski for the first time. When Sandberg got stuck on the mountain, her mother calmed her down by telling her that getting down from the mountain was just going to take ten turns. It worked. So, I counted out my ten turns.I went back to that after Dave diedbecause everything felt like a mountain, Sandberg s ays. I realized, I couldnt solve the whole problem.I didnt have to get down the whole mountain, and so I started doing small things. She made concrete actions to maintain a family unit for her children by creating new shared activities for them to do. They made meals and played games together weekly during a scheduled time.Perseverance in the face of adversity is a challenge each of us will face in our lives. Mastering these periods in our lives with grace means learning to appreciate what you have and let go of the pressures telling you irrational fictions about your situation.Handling severe adversity brings real perspectivewhich is about finding appreciationand recognizing, my life could be worse, and realizing how fortunate you areto have the good things that you do in your life, Sandberg says.

7 Job-Hunting Mistakes College Grads Should Avoid

7 Job-Hunting Mistakes College Grads Should Avoid7 Job-Hunting Mistakes College Grads Should AvoidIf youre a recent college ranguate, you should know that finding a job can be just as hard as acing some of those Cal 2 classes you took. If youre in the market for a job, below are seven job-hunting mistakes college grads should avoid- and what you should be doing to get hired.Avoid these seven job-hunting mistakes1. Being Vague, Rather Than SpecificSure, that English lit degree means that you can do anything from copyediting to writing to blogging. But when youre applying for a job, hiring managers want to know why your skills and education make you a shoo-in for that position- and more importantly, why you want it.If youre wishy-washy about your intentions (e.g., My parents told me I needed to have a full-time job six months after I graduated in order to pay off my student loans), you wont impress a potential boss- and you definitely wont get a job offer.Utilizing your resume, cover l etter, and the job interview, be specific in how youd be a perfect fit for that position.2. Not Using Social Media to Job SearchUp until now, your only interaction with social media might have been posting cool pics on Instagram and the occasional Facebook post. Thing is,social media is a very critical part of job search success. If youre not already, you should be on LinkedIn, which is one of the best ways to showcase your education and work experience online. Make sure that all of your other social media profiles are set to private, and then consider starting new, more professional ones on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc.Since the vast majority ofhiring managers will do a social media check, make sure that theres something for them to see that is positive, professional, and promotes you and your abilities in the best light possible.3. Neglecting Your NetworkYou might have naturally assumed that building a network of colleagues and coworkers would come after you were gainfully emp loyed. That can be a mistake, though. Its never too early togrow your professional network. You can add friends who are employed, people who were a part of your student groups or sororities/fraternities, and even trusted teachers. And dont forget about your family, friends, and those who know you best. departure spreading the word that you graduated and are looking for work- you never know where your next job lead might come from.4. Not Making Enough Time to SearchIt might seem tedious and boring, but job searching truly is a job in and of itself. As such, it requires the same amount of time, dedication, and focus that you needed to get through your finals. So make sure that you spend quality time looking for a job. If you want a flexible job, strategize your search to use niche job boards (like) and work with your natural rhythm. For example, if youre a morning person, search early each day so youll feel productive and build momentum. And dont forget to set alerts so that youll never miss a job opportunity.5. Stopping a Search After You Get a Promising LeadA big mistake that some college grads might make is thinking that a job interview means they are superclose to a job offer. The problem is that the hiring process for a job can take a very, very long time (theaverage job searchtakes many months, or more). If you stop your search because you think youve found The One, you might miss out on other job opportunities that could result in getting hired. You should only stop your job search when you accept a job offer- and not sooner.6. Using the saatkorn Cover LetterYes, it can be one of the most time-consuming tasks of the job search process, but its necessary to tailor each cover letter for each job you apply to. Be sure you address the correct person and talk about the specific job you are applying for. Mention why the job interests you and what you like about the company. Look over the the job listing and ensure you include a few keywords from it in your cover le tter. This will help ensure your application makes it past the automated resume scanners. As a new grad, putting in this extra effort can set you apart from other entry-level candidates.7. Being Inflexible with What You WantYou might want a full-time job as a fashion writer, but once youre in the throes of a job search, you might discover that there are only freelance or part-time positions available. Dont despair. Many people who want a full-time income attain it bycombining a variety of flexible jobs. For example, you might accept a contract job and a part-time position that, together, equals a full-time salary, but also affords you a whole lot of work-life balance and freedom. Plus, a variety of jobs means increasing your networking pool, which is a big benefit for gradsThese seven job-hunting mistakes that college grads should avoid can really be applied to any job seeker. So whether youre a newly minted college grad or not, keep these ideas in mind when youre job searching to get hired a whole lot quickerBrowse Open Flexible JobsRachel Jaycontributed to this post.
